David Boffa is a writer, independent filmmaker, and dog lover currently located in Madison, Wisconsin. For several years he taught art history at Beloit College, after spending time living in Rome, Italy, and Orono, Maine (where he developed a deep appreciation for maple syrup). He is a dedicated fan of nearly all things related to Olympic weightlifting and The Legend of Zelda series of video games. You learn more about his work at www.davidboffa.com; if you’d like to see a steady stream of beagle pictures you can check out his Instagram at @dr_boffa Story Notes: This story started out as a very different story nearly a decade ago. All that remains from that original draft are the setting—a junior high party at a roller rink—and the concept of asking someone to skate the “Couples Skate.” In looking back on the time spent writing and rewriting it, as well as the increasing distance I have from the memories that inspired the story, I’m struck by how elastic our experience of time itself is, which I think is fitting for the story.
