Angelique Fawns is a speculative fiction writer and fan of all things spooky. She's the author of three guides featuring the speculative fiction market, produces a horror fiction podcast called Read Me A Nightmare, and has sold over 30 short stories. You can find her fiction in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, DreamForge Anvil, Scare Street, ALLEGORY, and a variety of anthologies. Story Notes for Kutulu in the Desert The inspiration for this story comes from the beautiful and unique work of Dale Chihuly. In the winter of 2022, I visited Arizona and had the opportunity to see his blown glass creations at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. There is definitely an otherworldly quality to his art... I wrote "Kutulu in the Desert" as a part of the BakeOff Challenge in the Dreamcaster's writing group. (Run by DreamForge Magazine). Credit for the finished product of this strange adventure has to go to all members of the group. What a wonderful collaborative experience! Over the course of the summer, we helped each other craft stories using the "conflict" template provided by Scot Noel. My fellow writers corrected my military facts, made plot suggestions, and helped fine tune the rough areas. It was such a rewarding experience, I can't wait for the next challenge!
