We tell ourselves, looking at all

the wonderful photographs so many

have taken over time, that baby

sea turtles, when they hatch, crawl

toward the sea, when the truth of it is

that they crawl toward the moon.

 

We would rather believe our desires 

are of this world, that they can be sated 

right here, with a little swim in bright waves, 

and not need a journey that takes more 

than one life to reach what shines within us

(and without) in this longest of nights.
